Recording Discord Audio

Recording your screen and Discord audio at the same time.

By default, Discord's audio is recorded by Screenflick. If you've changed Discord's audio output device (for example, to your headphones), change that setting again.

How do I record Discord audio on my Mac?

By default, Discord's audio is recorded. If you've changed its audio output device, set "Output Device" in Discord's Voice & Video settings to "Default" or "Screenflick Loopback", and turn on "Record System Audio" in Screenflick. Keep reading.

Why can't I hear Discord after choosing Screenflick Loopback?

You won't hear Discord until you start a recording in Screenflick. After you start, you'll hear everything normally. Keep reading.

Set Up the Recording #

To record Discord

  1. System Preferences. In System Preferences → Sound → Output, select your headphones so the other participants' voices don't get picked up by your microphone.
  2. Discord. In Discord → Voice & Video, select "Screenflick Loopback" as the Output Device. After changing this setting, you won't hear any audio from Discord until you start a recording in Screenflick. Then you'll hear everything normally.

Most people find that simply choosing "Default" instead of Screenflick Loopback works properly too, and needs no settings changes when recording. Screenflick Loopback is the sure way to know it will be recorded.

  3. Screenflick. Select your microphone device and turn on Record System Audio as well.
  4. Start recording. After you start the recording you'll hear everything as you expect. You can check Screenflick's menu in the right side of the menu bar and watch the audio level indicator move as you and others chat in Discord, to know audio is being recorded.
